Oh, how the worm turns. After putting Detroit in a disastrous position while he was mayor Kwame Kilpatrick now begs to be released from prison because of a bad knee. It make him vulnerable to an attack from other inmates  Maybe he should have thought about that before he committed all of his crimes. Kwame must now face the mustard.

Kilpatrick asks court for prison release, says bad knee leaves him vulnerable

Detroit — Kwame Kilpatrick took his fight for freedom to a federal appeals court Thursday, arguing he is vulnerable to a prison attack due to a bum knee.
Kilpatrick needs to be released to his wife and three sons so he can undergo surgery on torn knee tendon, his lawyer wrote in an appeal filed Thursday with the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The former Detroit mayor allegedly slipped on the rain-soaked steel step of a U.S. Marshals Service van March 11 before being driven to prison in Milan, according to the filing.
Kilpatrick, 42, is wearing a leg brace while awaiting surgery, lawyer James C. Thomas wrote Thursday.
"Mr. Kilpatrick is housed with inmates charged with myriad violent and non-violent crimes," Thomas wrote. "His inability to move at the facility leaves him vulnerable to attack from others."
Kilpatrick is broke, can't afford to flee if he was released on bond and is not a danger to the community, the lawyer wrote. Those arguments have been rejected by U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmunds since Kilpatrick was found guilty of racketeering conspiracy and other charges March 11.
She ordered him detained in prison while awaiting an unscheduled sentencing date in the City Hall corruption case.
The judge, who could sentence Kilpatrick to more than 20 years in federal prison, relied on inaccurate information when she detailed problems he had complying with parole in another case, Thomas wrote Thursday.
"Although the crimes of which defendant Kilpatrick has been convicted of are serious, his criminal history, family ties, size, notoriety, lack of finances and legitimate issues for appeal in this case make him no risk of flight," Thomas wrote.
